Pain Relief for Your Pet

If your pet is suffering from pain and discomfort, why not try out acupuncture for relief? Look to West Toledo Animal Hospital for professional pet acupuncture.

What is Pet Acupuncture?

Pet acupuncture works very similar to acupuncture used on people. One of our acupuncture specialists inserts needles into specific points of your pet's body to relieve pain and help the body heal itself. There are variations to traditional acupuncture that can be used on animals. These variations are:

  • Moxibustion
  • Acupressure
  • Lasers
  • Aquapuncture
  • Electrostimulation

Traditional acupuncture requires your pet to sit still for at least 20 minutes while our specialist places needles on specific acupressure points. If this will be a difficult task for your pet, some of the above variations will be a better alternative than acupuncture.

With acupressure, our specialist will gently place pressure on specific parts of your animal's body. We can massage these areas, which will release toxins and allow the body to heal itself. If your pet is in a great deal of pain, a better method may be laser therapy. We will focus a light laser on the area of pain, which will help new cells grow and improve blood circulation.

With acupuncture, we inject your pet with liquids such as diluted vitamin B12 and homeopathies, which help move tissue that is causing pain. Electrostimulation involves our veterinarian placing needles with electrical pulses on your pet's acupuncture points. Electrostimulation can reduce muscle spasms and repair nerve damage to the affected area.

With moxibustion, we apply a hot Chinese herbal compound to the needles that are placed just under your pet's skin. We find that heat can greatly help older animals suffering from chronic pain associated with sore muscles and joint pain.

We can also use a combination of these acupuncture methods to help reduce and eliminate your cat or dog's chronic pain.

Benefits of Pet Acupuncture

There are many benefits of pet acupuncture. Once we insert a needle at a pain point, the muscles will relax, which work as a pain reliever. If you pet is taking any supplements or medications, they will not negatively be affected by the acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture treatments help jumpstart your pet's natural anti-inflammation and pain relief tendencies. There are also no negative side effects to worry about with acupuncture. Lastly, regular acupuncture sessions can boost your pet's blood flow, release the body of toxins, and improve oxygenation.

Conditions that Improve with Acupuncture

There are several conditions that can improve with acupuncture. These include:

  • Cancer
  • Arthritis
  • Metabolic diseases
  • Trauma
  • Degenerative joint disease

Feel free to ask us any questions or concerns you have about our pet acupuncture sessions. We are here to help improve the health of your pet.
