Pet Laser Therapy
Pet Laser Therapy Services
We know how important it is to keep your pet healthy and happy here at West Toledo Animal Hospital. One way we can help is through our pet laser therapy services.
What is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy is a non-invasive therapy similar to acupuncture and massage, as well as other alternative therapies. We use laser therapy to generally repair animal tissue that was damaged due to injuries or surgical procedures.
Benefits of Laser Therapy
We offer many benefits for laser therapy. These benefits include:
- Lowering the chances of the appearance of scar tissue
- Increasing the healing time of infections
- Healing surgical wounds
- Painful trigger points released
- Healing traumatic wounds
- Nerve regeneration and function improvements
Conditions That Benefit from Laser Therapy
Here is a list of the conditions that can improve with laser therapy:
- Surgical cuts
- Injuries that were traumatic
- Chronic arthritis
- Ligament and tendon injuries
Our specialists can also perform laser therapy on animals with conditions that do not have many medical treatment options. These include cats that are limited on medications they can take, older pets who cannot use certain organs as much as they use to, pets who are diagnosed with liver disease and are unable to take medication, and exotic pets that cannot take medication.
What to Expect During a Session
Laser therapy sessions only last about 5-10 minutes long each. Our veterinarian will make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible during the treatment. The laser we use is on a handheld wand for easy access and movement. Our specialist moves the wand over the damaged area slowly so that the entire area is given adequate treatment. The laser feels warm to most animals. Your pet will enjoy this warm sensation and may find it relaxing.
Is This Safe for Pets?
We assure you that laser therapy is a very safe form of healing treatment for your pet. Since laser beams can cause permanent damage when directed at eyes, our veterinary staff and your pet will wear protective goggles during treatment.
Make an Appointment
Make an appointment at your earliest convenience so that one of our veterinarians can look over your pet to determine if they can benefit from laser therapy. Our veterinarian will perform a physical and other tests to determine if your pet has any tissue damage. Once the damage is detected, we can set up laser therapy sessions with you.
